Just two days after leaving Bolton Wanderers for Sheffield Wednsday on a month-long loan, Stu Holden made his full debut for the Owls. New signings Seyi Olofinjana and Holden were both handed starts by Wednesday manager Dave Jones as Sheffield Wednesday welcomed David Flitcroft's Barnsley to Hillsborough.
Stu started the match in the center of the park and immediately showed his quality with his passing game as well as his sheer willingness to go into the tackle, connecting on just about every single one he tried. None of this is surprising of course as Holden was willing to win the ball from the moment he stepped back onto the pitch at Leyland in reserve action.
With Sheffield Wednesday in desperate need of a result against Barnsey (both on the brink of the drop zone), Stu almost provided the breakthrough. At around the 25 minute mark, Holden went close with an effort that Barnsley goalkeeper Luke Steele spilled before grabbing it at the second time of asking, before any Wednesday man could reach it.
Holden played for just over an hour before being substituted for Giles Coke. He had an excellent debut by all accounts.
