Jeter has 'without doubt ' he may go back to Yankees

NEW YORK (AP) a' Do not count out the chief. Derek Jeter is definite he'll come back to the Brand New York Yankees this season at exactly the same level that made him among baseball's most respected players. In a jocular mood and carrying pinstriped shorts, a training jacket and cap, Jeter expressed disappointment in learning a week ago that there is a fresh break in the leg, a personal injury that has sidelined him since Game hands down the AL championship series. He likely will soon be out until following the All-Star break. However, he never wavered in his confidence that he'll run a' with no limp a to the shortstop position that has been his since 1996. "When you have doubt, that is when you are in big trouble. I have been told this bone will cure, and when it heals I will prepare yourself to go," Jeter said Thursday. "It is annoying I am unable to magically make it heal earlier than it is taken." When Ny played Toronto, observing many teammates that have been not with the Yankees when he played in his last spring instruction game in mid-March Jeter was in the dugout for a game for the very first time this year. Kevin Youkilis, one of the new Yankees, was out from the choice for the fifth straight game due to a tight lower back. "He tried to simply take some work in the cage," director Joe Girardi said. "He is not really ready. I thought today it would be. So hopefully it's tomorrow. We'll just go day by day." Girardi is confident that whenever Jeter returns, he will function as same player who has 3,304 visitors, including an AL-leading 216 last year. "He is had a problem here," Girardi said. "We need certainly to deal with it but, ideally, we get him back and he's exactly the same person he was at the conclusion of last year." The 13-time All-Star is disappointed he failed in fulfilling his prediction that he'd return by opening day. Today the reality is after he is made 39 yrs old he'll not have the ability to help his team until around mid-July, days. No. 2 features a day in your mind for his reunite, but when it is he maybe not saying. "The last schedule I set, I didn't make," Jeter said. "I don't desire to disappoint myself or anybody else." Jeter was often persistent about accidents, declining checks and declaring he was well enough to play. He's willed herself onto the field within a career by which his 2,531 games at shortstop ranking only behind Omar Vizquel (2,709) and Luis Aparicio (2,581). "I don't speak about injuries," he said. "It is just I believe speaing frankly about accidents is just making a reason on your own. You either play or you do not." In 2004, he famously dived in to the stands to create a hook contrary to the Boston Red Sox and walked off the field bruised and bloody. However, he took his place at Shea Stadium the very next day. When he dislocated his neck in 2003, he returned nearly exactly to your day expected and played through pain a lot of the season a' alone of his 17 previous total times that he played less than 130 games. At 38, he had no such luck. Jeter played for much of last September with a bad bone bruise. It finally gave out contrary to the Detroit Tigers when he lunged for a groundball Oct. 13. He had surgery, and a party at Yankee Stadium for his Turn 2 Foundation per week later, he promised to be on the field for the April 1 opener. But Jeter was only enjoyed five big league games, three at shortstop and slowed by stiffness and soreness throughout spring training. He went for a new CT scan in Charlotte, N.C., If the pain continued into April, and the break was revealed by that test. "When I acquired it, it wasn't good news," Jeter said. "I thought when I went along to begin to see the doc, I'd rise there, I thought he would say it had been something different. Tape it up. Let's go. But it wasn't the case. It did not feel too beneficial to quite some time. I'm laughing and smiling and happy that I am up here. But I'm still upset that I could not play." For the time being he will be limited to playing supporter and until he's given the OK to start his on-field rehabilitation again exercising. Jeter went with no limp into and from the news conference, and he wasn't wearing the protective boot he says he's to wear, even though he does not think it is necessary. He'll spend at the very least the 10-game homestand in New York. "It is tough never to be around the team," Jeter said.
