City leading race for £25m flop Sanchez as Barca look to cut their losses - Daily Mail

Manchester City are the frontrunners to sign Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez in the summer as the Spanish giants look to get rid of the Chilean they signed two years ago for £25million.

City's sporting director Txiki Begiristain was the man who took Sanchez to the Nou Camp from Udinese, and he now holds the same role but at the Etihad.

Barcelona are happy to get rid of the 24-year-old, who has only scored three goals in all competitions this season, if they can re-coup most of what they paid for him, according to the Sunday People.

The player City are trying most urgently to sign is Radamel Falcao, but they think that Sanchez may provide the back-up needed to mount a more successful title bid.

Falcao is already the subject of a bid from Inter Milan, but City's millions may be enough to persuade the Colombian that Manchester is the place to go.

They are also hoping to hang on to Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure, whose performances last year were one of the key reasons that they won the Premier League.

Some time in the next fortnight Toure's representatives will meet with City to try and draw-up a new deal to keep him at the club, with suggestions that he has felt 'unloved'.

Chelsea and PSG will be monitoring the Toure situation, but it is unlikely that City would sell him to another Premier League challenger.
