Preakness 2013: Contenders Designed to Benefit from Shorter Road.

A 2013 Preakness Stakes is usually scheduled for May 20 at the Pimlico Race Course in Maryland, and it will feature you will find many same horses who competed in the recent Kentucky Derby with Churchill Downs.

For those that did well at a Derby, they'll simply be in need of another strong showing here in the second leg of that Triple Crown. But for a few, the Preakness Stakes will provide a way to rectify the mistakes they will made at Kentucky and let them to bounce back by having a stellar performance.

Not only does it likely be a lot drier even more compact than the rain-soaked Kentucky Derby is, the track at Preakness can be notably shorter than of which at Churchill Downs.

The Derby takes place over 10 furlongs (or 1. 25 miles) while Preakness is done over 9. 5 furlongs (or 1 along with 3/16 miles). That may not seem like much on the difference, but the shorter track will benefit various horses this year, and much more several standout performers to the day because of the application.

Goldencents finished well heli-copter flight pace at the Kentucky Derby quicker this month and secured in a dark didn't deserve the contender status a growing number of had given him.

I've written previously about the reality that Kevin Krigger definitely taken out up Goldencents when he knew that he couldn't win, and which he therefore wasn't that a lot behind the eventual winner. I also noted in that , piece that I thought a shorter track will suit Goldencents, and a great deal more see whether that's a fact when he lines up inside the Preakness Stakes.

He showed the crna can win on the shorter track at the Santa Anita Derby, of course, if he can do this there, he's a great thrill to repeat the process at Pimlico following that weekend.

Goldencents is a very good horse with a good jockey on this phone, and with a sprinter's pedigree, it seems likely he'll be a substantial contender on Saturday.

Departing didn't run the Kentucky Derby this year, so we don't learn how he would have fared over the longer course at Churchill Downs. Nevertheless having watched this mount previously, it's clear that Departing is around capable of finding success on the shorter track and you will be a real contender at Pimlico.

Using dominated in New Orleans, Departing then showed terrific form at the Louisiana Derby and the Illinois Derby. His run in Louisiana experienced him finish third to two horses (Revolutionary along with Mylute) who both finished top five in the Kentucky Derby, and his run with the Illinois Derby (see above) saw him take away from the field on the concluding stages.

Departing has all the skills required to become a big contender at Pimlico this particular weekend, and he should thrive with the shorter track offered when compared to at Churchill Downs.

Orb may be the overwhelming favorite for that race after emerging triumphant from a mud-soaked field to command the Kentucky Derby. And due to the fact he's perhaps more suited to a shorter track than the one at Churchill Downs, he or she appears very tough to beat this weekend in Pimlico.

He's won over 1 along with 1/16 miles at Fasig-Tipton Elixir of youth earlier in the yr and follow that all the way up with victory over 1 and 1/8 miles with the Florida Derby.

Joel Rosario has changed a great combination with Orb, and having shown the crna can win from either the spine of the pack (like the Derby) or within the front like some associated with his other wins, you'd must think that he'll be incredibly tough to run down if he gets his nose in the front in this race.

Since 12 of the past 35 horses to acquire the Derby have gone on and won this Preakness, I think it's fairly safe to suggest that Orb is a pretty big chance from this one.
