Real Madrid are considering a move to sign Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez at the end of the season with the Mexican star facing a battle for his Old Trafford future.

Hernandez has proven himself to be one of the Premier League's best goalscorers with 15 to his name this season, but he continues to have to make do with infrequent appearances as he is behind Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck in the pecking order.

The 24-year-old Mexican international could fall further behind if Manchester United do complete a summer deal to sign giant Pole Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund in the summer with Sir Alex Ferguson keen on a deal.

And, according to the Sunday Mirror, Real Madrid are set to test United's resolve to hold onto Hernandez with a bid planned at the end of the season as they look to add a goalscorer to their ranks to replace Karim Benzema.

Madrid are understood to have been tracking Hernandez throughout his career at Manchester United having also been in the running to sign him as a youngster only to lose out to the Old Trafford club.

Real Madrid's own forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a return to Manchester United, where he made his name before being signed by the La Liga giants, with Ferguson reported to be willing to pay £55million to re-sign the Portuguese international.
