Reports in Holland claim that Ajax have rejected a bid from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala for defender Toby Alderweireld.
The cash-rich club are in the market for a new central defender, having seen Christopher Samba head to Queens Park Rangers in the January transfer window.The Russian transfer window closes at the end of February and boss Guus Hiddink is on the look-out for a new stopper, with the Belgian international said to be top of his wish-list.The 23-year-old has also been linked with a number of Premier League clubs, with Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle United said to be interested and it remains to be seen whether the talented youngster would be willing to play in the Russian league.But Ajax are unwilling to let him go at this stage of the season anyway and it appears that there could be a bidding war for the Antwerp-born star in the summer.
